What is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) ?

In British Columbia a Registered Clinical Counsellor is certified by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and ensures clinicians have a Masters Degree in the field as well as additional training in specific areas of practice, satisfy BCACC's clinical supervision requirements, and agree to uphold ethical standards of practice and best practice guidelines of BCACC. What do I need to know before working with a counsellor online?

​

A growing body of research supports the idea that online therapy produces the same benefits as in person counselling.

​

For many people, access, travel time and convenience, as well as the increased piece of mind of connecting from the comfort of one's home can make an online counselling experience richer and more accessible than in person. The exception is if a client can not guarantee privacy, confidentiality or safety in their home. 

​

I work with a user friendly platform called Zoom telehealth. It is a HIPAA (signed BAA) and PIPEDA/PHIPA compliant with data in motion encrypted at the application layer using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). It's free and easy to download and use.

​

I'll send you easy instructions before we meet to ensure you check your sound and video before hand to make sure technology won't be a barrier on the day we connect.

Am I covered by extended benefits? 


Before you begin counselling, check with your insurance provider to see what they cover and how much. Most extended benefits cover a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), however some may only cover a registered social worker or psychologist. Please note, my policy is to provide a receipt once you have paid in full and I do not bill insurance companies directly. You will then use this receipt to forward to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy

In general I require at least 24 hours notice in order to cancel or change appointments and always appreciate more when possible. Cancelled or missed appointments with less than 24 hours notice may be charged at your normal rate.

How long is a session? 

​

As of September 2023, I am only seeing clients and providing clinical supervision on line with the following rates: 

Individual in person one on one 50 minute session: $160.00 

Individual virtual one on one 50 minute session: $160.00 

Individual virtual one on one recorded 50 minute session: $150.00

Clinical Supervise Rates $160.00 on line only

What is Clinical Consultation?

​

Clinical Consultation is a structured and formalized working partnership between professionals in the field. The goal is to provide professional development, review clinical work, clarify goals, and provide ongoing assistance and reflection to support client and professional welfare. I both seek and offer clinical consultation. 

​

Why would you record our sessions? 

​

As is best practice, I also seek supervision to continue to improve and enhance my skills, and therefore the service I provide to my clients. This process involves looking at specific client sessions via a shared screen with my supervisor as she supports my ongoing growth and development. At no time does a recorded video leave the security of my computer.  

If we record a session together, at any time you may change your mind about recording or sharing a particular recording for supervision.

Who do you work with?​​

I primarily work with adults and teens and also provide clinical consultation.
Please note: Due to Canadian counsellor regulation, Galen only provides counselling to clients who reside in the Canadian provinces/territories of BC, SK, MB, NL & L, YT, NU, or NT.
